Editing the Commercial Blog

Today was supposed to be our editing day for our commercials. Unfortunately we cannot continue edit today. Our computers need to be replaced so my partner and I decided to take up other things to help us out when we are able to edit. Fortunately enough me and my partner started some of editing during our last class. Since our filming day was a little hectic we both decided to go re film a couple of scenes. I followed our classroom steps and procedures to getting the filming equipment. Next I got dressed and grabbed my own personal props and equipment. Once my partner and I were dressed we headed back out to our filming location. We re filmed both of our before and afters. We also re filmed our close ups on the shoes as well. Once we were done re filming we came back to class. We return all of our equipment. Once we were settled we returned our items and began the dumping process. I checked out an SD reader, and plugged it into the computer. I then dumped our footage onto the computer. I uploaded the footage to a flash drive. I also added it to my personal drive for safe measures. After this done I found myself with more spare time. With this time I also decided to be productive and plan ahead. I planned ahead using our storyboard. I was planning out how I was going to edit. I did this scene by scene. I know where i am going to cut, and the order in which the scenes will go. I added all of our fade in and fade out transitions on the storyboard as well. In addition, I also chose the music that will be in the background of our commercial. We chose an intense soundtrack that sounds like what a normal Nike commercial would sound like. In addition i figure out how i will make the last slide in our commercial that will say "just do it." Last i just communicated everything with my partner and made she liked the storyboard and the plan when we do get our computers. She approved of the storyboard so we decided that we were content with our work for the day.

Filming blog

The very first thing I did along with my partner was choose a plan in terms of filming. I decided to number out storyboard. I labeled what scenesto film first. I also labeled how we were going to do that. I also labeled which shots and angles were going to be in the scenes that we’d be filming. I then decided to go check out the necessary equipment. I filled out our sign out sheet and I was then given a camera by my instructor. I also checked if everything was functioning properly before we left the room. Once that was done I grabbed my stuff and my partner and I headed to our location to begin filming. I choose the track. It had a large open and grassy area. I was responsible of choosing the location as well. Once we chose our filming location I decided it was time to take the materials out of their casing. I began filming her and she began filming me. We took turns. I took several takes of each scene. While filming I made sure the camera was positioned properly. In addition I made sure the camera was properly angled. Both my partner and I made sure we were following that plan and making sure everything matched up. In the end , we needed a scene done with the both of us in it , so I had to find someone else that was willing to film us. Once I found that person I gave her clear directions as to how I wanted her to do that. I brought her to our new location. Then I showed her our story board and directed her as needed. I helped her understand the different shots and angles and how we needed them to match our storyboard. After we felt content with what we filmed , I packed up our equipment and we went back the our classroom. I returned our equipment as well. My partner and I signed out a chip reader and plugged it until the computer. We both dumped our footage onto the computer together. After that was done we returned the reader and class was over.

Storyboard

We are going to begin by starting our Nike commercial with an over the shoulder shot. We used this shot to looking to her perspective and introduce our first obstacle. She is looking over at a group of kids she is nervous about introducing herself to. We will transition by fading in and out throughout the whole commercial. We will likely use this transition the most because it will make the commercial more intense. Our next scene will be just an eye level tracking shot. I feel this in combination with the transition is really going to create that drama. In this scene I will be tossing my baton and i wont be able to catch a single toss. The next scene is going to be either a long or medium shot of Kayla doing a poor job playing on her drums. These three scenes hold one thing in common: something the subject is struggling with. So with doing this we will show the transformation after putting on the shoes, really capturing the essence of Nike's "just do it." This before and after technique works to really show how Nike improves performance. The next clip is of all the subjects strapping on and tying on those Nike shoes. We will literally be stepping into the scene/shot. This scene will be from a low angle and it will also be an extreme close up to really provide emphasis of the shoe brand. Afterwards the next scene is another long shot back to me, and will include me catching my toss successfully. As you may guess the next scene is going to be a long shot of Kayla and she'll be performing much better on her drums. Right after that we'll have a three or four person long shot showing that the girl was warmly welcomed by the other people. These are all the "afters" and they all include better performance than last time. This is because of the Nike. This would to persuade people to purchase more Nike. After this we will be nearing the end of the commercial. It will jump straight from here to the famous "Just do it" words on the screen, just as Nike would do. It will be a black screen with white words. This will end things on a strong note. In terms of editing throughout this commercial, we will add intense music to go along with the commercial. This is what most professional Nike commercials include. We will also likely add bomb sound effects to highlight the bad moments. To highlight the good we likely add an audience clapping or cheering.

Editing Lesson Blog

This class period we learned how to use the equipment and how to care for it as well. We also learned how to take the footage and save it, import it, as well as export the footage. Our teacher showed us how to sign the cameras in and out. We were also shown where the tripod and the camera goes. She demonstrated how to put in the SD card, turn them on as well as off. She just basically gave us a "tour" of the camera showing us how and where to record and gave us tips on recording certain shots like running and walking shots etc.

To take your footage from the camera to the computer, the first thing you want to do is take your footage from the camera to the computer. You want to put in your SD card into the computer, and find the clip(s) you like. You're then going to highlight then drag and drop them into your folder onto the computer. After this is done you're going to want to open up your editing software. Once it's all opened up, you want to locate and press on the import button on your software. Then it'll open up the documents on your computer. Next you want to locate your folder and upload the clips for your project. Once they appear, this is your raw footage. Raw footage is the untouched footage. You want to arrange and drop them into track 2, because that's where the film goes. Edit the clips in anyway that satisfy you. You can cut, copy, reverse or duplicate the clips. You can add any transitions and music as well as detach and add sounds.

Once your project is finished, you then want to export the project. To export the project, you need to locate your export button and press it. It will likely ask if you're sure you want to export the video, and you should click yes. the program will then begin to render, or suck and smooth out, your video. name the video whatever you want or whatever you are instructed. Save the final video into your folder. Then share the video however you want to. We will likely be sending ours to our class email.

Research, conventions and codes Blog

Most of Nike's most famous commercials, start off with no sound. You see at least a medium shot or longer of the subject as well. They then  are likely going to take part in some sort of sport. The set design usually includes the player, the audience, as well as the field or court. For example, you watched Syrena William dominate on the tennis court, Colin kapernick on the field, and Lebron James on the basketball court. This is soon followed by them playing and by an increase in sound. You then begin to hear the diegetic sounds of the crowd cheering the player on for the great play. The lighting tends to be bright at times to try and bring the audience to the field/court and sometimes the lighting may be toned down for a more serious mood. The camera is generally at a high angle when showing a game. Directors usually go for long shots to show every single movement of the player. This shot captures all the action. In Addition, tracking shots are also usually used to follow the athlete. Their Mis en Scene tends to include bottles, clothing and gear and much more, that are usually Nike related.

All About Me

My name is Chelsea, and this is my blog for AICE Media. I am a junior but because of my hard work
and determination I am graduating early in the 2020 senior class. I'm Co-Captain of the Majorette team
at my school. We call ourselves the "Silver Wingettes". In my free time I enjoy listening to music,
watching Youtube videos, and doing hair. I learned how to do hair by watching tutorials on Youtube.
I like having fun with my close friends. My closest friends are Jahrvia, Autumn, Savannah, and Justin.
They are so special to me.

I enjoy lots of family and quality time, especially with my two older sisters Jasmine and Rachel.
I also enjoy playing and spending quality time with my only cat Simba. He is super wild and playful.
He is about a year old. Overall, I like to think of myself as an average teenager that likes to explore.
I'm super open and I love to try new things.

In terms of a career, I would really love to be a divorce attorney. I would like to double major and get
my Juris doctorate degree, and I would also like my degree in cosmetology. This way I can pursue my
passion and make big money at the same time. I plan to hopefully attend UCF for my undergraduate
degree, and enter law school at FSU. I hope you had fun taking a peek into my life.
